Smart Exhibits

Start with an object and open several ways to understand it: observation, story, gesture, and dialogue.

01 / The approach

A collection preserves objects and knowledge, but visitors encounter a selection of stories. We design installations where curated content, physical space, and interaction help people ask questions and connect what they see with its context.

Projections, 3D reconstructions, gesture interfaces, and digital counterparts are chosen to serve the content and audience. Curators guide the sources, interpretations, and boundaries of the story.

02 / How it works

01

Choose the focus

Identify objects, stories, visitor questions, and available sources with curators and collection leads.

02

Design the encounter

Connect artifacts and digital content through a clear sequence, considered pace, and interactions that support exploration.

03

Test in place

Check legibility, accessibility, visitor flow, and response quality; refine content and interactions.

03 / What to observe

Questions prompted by the object

Orientation and attention in the space

Understanding links between object and context

Content accessibility for different audiences

04 / A concrete example

Turin and Rome

At the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences in Turin, projections and avatars invite visitors to explore ecosystems and speak with historical figures. At Rome’s Museum of Zoology, a permanent installation co-designed with curators combines specimens, visual storytelling, 3D reconstructions, and gesture interaction; an avatar of Arrigoni degli Oddi discusses the collection in Italian and English.

05 / How to tailor it

The installation starts with the collection, space, conservation needs, audience, languages, and available resources. Narrative form, duration, interfaces, and content maintenance are agreed with the institution.
